Ontario NDP takes to the airwaves as Van Houtte campaign makes big push in final week

Simcoe North – You will be hearing a lot more about the reckless sell-off of Hydro One this week if you live in Simcoe North. Starting tomorrow, the Elizabeth Van Houtte campaign will begin running radio ads in high-rotation.

“This campaign is a chance to send a message to the Liberal government that selling-off Hydro One is wrong,” said Van Houtte campaign manager Jim Reilly. “We believe that it is important that the people of Simcoe North understand what's at stake in this by-election.”

The ad focuses on the Liberals’ deeply unpopular decision to sell-off Hydro One. A recent poll showed that 85% of Simcoe North residents are opposed the Liberal government’s sell-off of Ontario’s hydro system. The government's own polling shows that 3 out of 4 Ontarians oppose the sale.

With the Liberal brand badly damaged in Ontario by the hydro sell-off, the by-election in Simcoe North is shaping up to be a two-way race between the Ontario NDP and the Conservatives.

“The sell-off of hydro is bad for families and businesses in Simcoe North. The people of Simcoe North deserve someone who will stand up for their priorities and look out for their interests,” said Van Houtte. “I’m proud to be the only candidate standing up for our community against this bad Liberal decision.”

The radio ad will begin running in high-rotation on Friday on local radio stations.
