Andrea Horwath Statement: Getting results on a full environmental assessment for the Pier 15 gasification plant

Andrea Horwath, Ontario NDP Leader and MPP for Hamilton Centre, issued the following statement:

“Hamiltonians are concerned about the impacts of the Pier 15 gasification plant on our community. For over a year I have been pressing the Liberal government for a full Environmental Assessment. I’ve called on the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change in Question Period. I’ve met privately with him on several occasions and I’ve continued to pushfor a full Environmental Assessment.

Today, I’m pleased to tell Hamiltonians that we got results and the project will now be subject to a full Environmental Assessment. I want to thank Hamilton City Council, Environment Hamilton, and every member of our community who stood up and sent a strong message to the Liberal government that we need a full EA.

Hamiltonians deserve to know what this plant could mean for our environment and the health of our neighbourhoods. I will continue to watch this process to ensure that Hamiltonians’ voices are heard.”
