Elizabeth Van Houtte nominated Ontario NDP candidate for Simcoe North by-election

The Simcoe North NDP have nominated Elizabeth Van Houtte to be the Ontario NDP candidate for the upcoming by-election in the riding of Simcoe North.

“Elizabeth Van Houtte is a local leader, and will be a powerful voice for the people of Simcoe North at Queen’s Park,” said Horwath. “Kathleen Wynne and Patrick Brown seem to believe that this by-election is about them – I believe that it’s about the families and businesses of Simcoe North. I know that Elizabeth will serve as a strong advocate for her community.”

Elizabeth Van Houtte is a professor of social work at Laurentian University. She has been vocal on the need to bring good-paying jobs to the riding and growing small businesses in North Simcoe. Sky High Hydro rates that will result from the Liberal sell-off of Hydro One are a major concern for local businesses.

“I am looking forward to offering the people of Simcoe North a positive choice in this by-election,” said Van Houtte. “I understand the realities that families in this area face and I get their priorities. I am looking forward to working hard on their behalf for better jobs, health care and making life more affordable,” said Van Houtte.

“This by-election is a chance for this community to join the NDP in sending a message to Kathleen Wynne that her selloff of Hydro One is bad for local families, bad for area small businesses and must stop now,” said Horwath.

“Between the Liberal’s reckless Hydro selloff and Patrick Brown’s concern for his own political career, people are worried that their priorities are going to be overshadowed.  With Elizabeth Van Houtte as your NDP MPP at Queen’s Park, you know that she will be there to look out for the priorities of the people of Simcoe North.”
