Statement by Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath on Pakistan Independence Day

Today, New Democrats across the province join with Ontarians of Pakistani descent in celebrating Independence Day. On this day in 1947 Pakistan became an independent and sovereign nation.

Ontario is home to the largest group of people claiming Pakistani ancestry in Canada. Pakistani Ontarians are an extremely vital and engaged part of Ontario’s social fabric and economic wellbeing, and are integral part of the cultural mosaic that makes up our great province.

On behalf of the Ontario NDP, I want to wish everyone a Happy Pakistan Independence Day.
