Statement from Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on the Oshawa GM Assembly Plant

“The announcement that GM will be moving Camaro production out of Ontario is very bad news for the people and workers of Oshawa.  This loss of 1000 positions will have a significant impact. For workers who will lose their jobs, their families and the community these will be very trying times, but New Democrats will be there to support them.

 Auto industry jobs are vital to Ontario’s economy but this Liberal government has done nothing to address job losses in the auto sector. Just as in communities like Windsor and Cambridge who have recently received similar bad news, this demonstrates that this Liberal government has no strategy for the auto sector in Ontario. Without a comprehensive auto strategy, the Liberals will be putting more manufacturing jobs at risk.”
