Statement from Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on the passage of Bill 153

“On behalf of Ontario’s New Democrats, I am very pleased to see the passage of Bill 153, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Secretariat Act. The Act will finally recognize the manner with which the Métis Nation of Ontario governs itself, and it marks the first time that stand-alone legislation for the Métis will be introduced in the Ontario Legislature.

While we have heard clearly from the MNO that there is more work that needs to be done, it is important to recognize the significance of the passage of this bill. New Democrats congratulate the MNO and their membership on their successful advancement and passage of Bill 153.”
