Statement from NDP Education Critic Lisa Gretzky on Education Negotiations

“Like parents across Ontario, I am pleased to hear that a tentative agreement has been reached between teachers represented by OSSTF and the government and school boards. I hope that this tentative agreement is a sign that Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals are starting to back down on their plans to create more chaos in our schools. After failing to reach agreements over the past year, pushing talks to the eleventh hour, and causing worry and frustration for families and education workers alike, the Liberals have a lot of hard work ahead of them to restore trust and reach agreements with all teachers and education workers. Worst of all, the Liberals still plan to cut up to $500 million from our children’s schools by 2017. New Democrats will continue to stand with families in calling on Kathleen Wynne to stop those cuts, stop causing chaos in our schools, and start putting students first.”
