Wynne urged to reveal which cabinet ministers got free maid service

TORONTO - New Democrats today launched a website calling on Kathleen Wynne to release the names of Liberal cabinet ministers who had their homes cleaned for free and were named in Ontario Provincial Police documents as part of an investigation into an elaborate kickback scheme.

The investigation began after an audit revealed that a contract cleaner had routinely overbilled on contracts received through Liberal government ministries. The contractor billed over $2.2 million dollars for government cleaning contracts between March 2002 and August 2008. (http://goo.gl/yjAgz8

Two of the three government officials who pleaded guilty to breach of trust and accepting a secret commission worked for the Ministry of Transportation while Wynne was still the Transportation Minister.

According to sworn witness testimony in a court case related to the kickbacks, a contractor testified to providing free cleaning services to nearly 200 public officials during that time, including “cabinet ministers”.

This information was provided to the Ontario Provincial Police who say they passed this information on to the Liberal government.

Today, New Democrat MPP Taras Natyshak demanded answers, launching a website inviting the public to sign a petition to Kathleen Wynne demanding that she release the names of the Liberal MPPs who had their homes cleaned: http://www.libmaid.ca

New Democrats also setup a toll free number for members of the public to find out more and leave a message for Kathleen Wynne: 1-844-LIB-MAID
