Human Rights Commission appointments show Ford hasn’t stopped meddling

QUEEN’S PARK — According to a report by the Toronto Star, Doug Ford has appointed two people to the Ontario Human Rights Commission, even though neither of them appeared on a list of more than 300 applicants under consideration. The meddling is the latest in Ford’s appointments scandal. Since June of 2019, Ford has appointed friends, family members of staff, and PC Party insiders to boards, commissions and agencies across Ontario, even once attempting to appoint his buddy Ron Taverner to head the Ontario Provincial Police. NDP MPP Peter Tabuns released the following statement:

“It looks like Doug Ford has learned nothing at all from his appointments scandals, and is going to keep undermining the public’s confidence in the appointments process. The Ford government promised to make changes to improve the transparency and legitimacy of the process, but it’s clear nothing has changed.

We’re concerned that Doug Ford has bypassed the process for appointments to the Ontario Human Rights Commission. These appointees should have to go through the same process as everyone else.”
