NDP to Ford: return the rush hour GO train

Ford’s Kitchener GO line cut causing mayhem, unsafe levels of overcrowding

QUEEN’S PARK — NDP MPPs from Kitchener, Waterloo and Brampton — Laura Mae Lindo (Kitchener Centre), Catherine Fife (Waterloo), Sara Singh (Brampton Centre), Kevin Yarde (Brampton North) and Gurratan Singh (Brampton East) — along with NDP Transit critic Jessica Bell (University-Rosedale) released the following statement in response to Doug Ford’s changes to the Kitchener GO line:

“People in Kitchener, Waterloo and Brampton needed improved GO Train service to help them to travel to and from work more quickly and conveniently. Instead, the Ford government has made things even worse for people.

The Ford government cancelled the vital 4:50 express GO train along the Kitchener line, and removed carriages from trains that were already packed, resulting in routine delays, and crushing, dangerous levels of overcrowding.

Commuters from Kitchener, Waterloo and Brampton deserve better. That’s why the NDP is calling on Doug Ford to fix the problem he made worse by immediately reinstating the 4:50 express GO train along the Kitchener line. We will also continue to fight for two-way, all-day GO service to these communities, which would address overcrowding, give commuters more options, and spark job creation.”
