Only NDP will offer Ontarians change for the better: Horwath

Conservatives no replacement for tired, disappointing Liberals

At the start of the final session of the legislature before the election, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says only her party offers an alternative to the disappointing and worn-out Liberals. With the Conservatives bent on cutting billions in services, and now deep in a leadership crisis, Horwath said that the coming session and election won’t just be about change – it’ll be about change for the better.

“Over the next few weeks, you’ll see the Liberals offering up desperate, last-ditch promises to try and convince people to settle for them one more time. And you’ll see a Conservative party asking folks to settle for their party, despite their leadership crisis, nomination controversies, and their plan to cut billions from the services we all count on,” said Horwath.

“We don’t have to accept cuts. We don’t have to keep watching our health care system being squeezed, and our hydro bills going up. This election can be about not just change, but change for the better – and that’s what I’m focused on.”

Horwath says Ontarians deserve a leader whose plans offer hope.

Among the plans she and NDP have released is a plan for pharmacare for all, a prescription drug plan that covers everyone regardless of age or income; a plan for tackling the overcrowding and long waits in health care and hospitals; a plan to root out the problems in seniors care with a find-and-fix inquiry; and a plan to bring Hydro One back into public hands so hydro bills come down, and stay down.

“Ontarians shouldn’t have these painfully long waits for care. No one should have to cut their pills in half to make the bottle last longer. No family should have to worry about the safety of their loved ones in long-term care,” said Horwath. “So, let’s put plans into action that will deliver change for the better. Let’s get good things done.”
