Ontarians need more affordable places to live — not more crackdowns on renters: Ontario NDP Housing critic

QUEEN’S PARK — Suze Morrison, Ontario NDP Housing critic, released the following statement in response to a Toronto Star report that the Ford Conservatives plan to help landlords crack down on renters:

“At a time when the rising cost of housing is making it harder for Ontario families to find a place they can afford, and keep a roof over their heads, Doug Ford’s Conservatives are focused on helping landlords toss tenants out on the street faster. Putting evictions ahead of helping more families find and afford a decent place to live is a badly misplaced priority.

The Conservatives are taking a terrible page from the Liberals’ playbook. Ontarians didn’t want the government to give landlords more power when the Liberals pitched the idea, and they don’t want that to happen now — especially since the housing crisis has only gotten worse.

Everyday Ontarians need more affordable places to live — not more crackdowns on renters.”
