Statement from Andrea Horwath on the anniversary of D-Day

“Today, on the anniversary of D-Day, we remember, honour, and thank the nearly 21,000 Canadians who took part in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, to free Europe from the Nazi regime.

We honour the courage and conviction of those Canadian soldiers who stood with the Allied Forces against fascism. And we treasure the legacy they’ve left for the generations that have followed them – lasting liberty and peace.

We must never forget that the price of the freedom won at Normandy was the loss of 5,000 Canadian lives.

Today, let’s honour all Canadians who have served our country in times of war, military conflict, peace and crisis. Lest we forget.”
