CONSTITUENCY ASSISTANT – Casework/Outreach Full Time Contract – August 2017 – July 2018 MPP Catherine Fife – Kitchener Waterloo

Objectives:  To assist the Member by completing assigned casework and outreach duties.

 

Responsible to Member for:

  • Dealing with enquiries and solving problems and advocating for constituents (case work).   Contacting and responding to  constituents by telephone, writing, and in person.  Contacting  senior government personnel, officials from outside organizations, and local government, as well as building and maintaing these relationships.
  • Preparing all documentation related to casework and maintain organized casework files. 
  • Preparing, gathering, maintaining and compiling research material as requested by Member to aid in communicating with constituents and organizations in the constituency.
  • Responding to requests for research or information from the MPP’s constituents.
  • Monitor local media to ensure a strong media presence for the Member. May include preparing weekly columns, drafting op-eds, standard media releases and arranging stand-up interviews. As well, will work with the MPP and caucus communications department to maintain the Member’s social media presence for the purpose of increasing MPP’s visual identity and interaction with constituents; and assist with outreach and engagement to help promote awareness of the MPP in the riding.
  • Keeping informed in all policy areas assigned by Member and liaising with interest groups within the constituency.
  • Travel throughout the Riding to perform outreach, casework and event planning and other duties as assigned by the Member.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge, appropriate to the position, of the NDP and/or the Canadian labour movement, Canadian Government, Ontario government, regional and municipal governments, and public affairs.  
  • Ability to write articles and reports, to meet deadlines, produce accurate work and maintain organized records.  
  • Ability to understand and prepare cases and to advocate effectively on behalf of the Member’s constituents.  Experience in social work or related field considered an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills, including basic office software and online platforms, including social media and web services, eg. WordPress and NationBuilder.  
  • “Familiarity with Member’s constituency, community resources and services, and key stakeholder groups in the region essential”
  • Experience in  NDP organizations, Ontario Government and election campaigns would be an asset.  
  • Proficiency in social media required.

CONSTITUENCY ASSISTANT - OUTREACH/CASEWORK Temporary Part-Time – 19.5 hours (between June 10 and September 25th inclusive) Wayne Gates, MPP – Niagara Falls

Location: Fort Erie Satellite office

Objectives:  To assist the Member by completing assigned casework and outreach duties primarily in the Fort Erie community. 

Responsible to Member for:

  • Staffing satellite office. 
  • Dealing with enquiries and solving problems and advocating for constituents (case work).   Contacting and responding to  constituents by telephone, writing, and in person.  Contacting  senior government personnel, officials from outside organizations, and local government on behalf of constituents.
  • Assisting with outreach and engagement to help promote awareness of the MPP in the riding.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with constituents and local stakeholders including community organizations.
  • Keeping informed and liaising with interest groups within the Fort Erie area and ensuring Member is advised of key local concerns. 
  • Monitor local media and ensure that Member’s visibility wtihin the riding is reflected in traditional as well as new (social) media.
  • Developing, maintaining, and managing online records and ensuring that casework intake is reflected via electronic database.
  • Responding to requests for research or information from the MPP’s constituents in Fort Erie and surrounding area. 
  • Travelling throughout the riding to perform outreach as assigned by the member including: event planning, speaking engagements, attending events on behalf of the Member.

Experience in  NDP organizations, the Canadian labour movement, Ontario government, or federal government would be an asset.  Second language skills preferred.  As this will be the primary caseworker, candidates with a Bachelors or Masters in Social Work are encouraged to apply.
