Statement by Andrea Horwath on the 30th anniversary of November 1984

On behalf of Ontario’s New Democrats I want to recognize the 30th anniversary of November 1984. I want to extend our thoughts to everyone touched by the violence against thousands of Sikhs.

 
This is an opportunity to remember those killed and renew the calls for justice.
 
It’s also an time to remember people from non-Sikh background who saved the lives of their Sikh neighbours, often at great risk to themselves.
 
As we mark the 30th anniversary we join members of the community across Ontario and across the globe in standing against violence and standing for every  person to practice their faith and live in peace.
