Statement by NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on the funeral of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo

“Today was a tough day for me and many Canadians.  The funeral of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was heartbreaking.  Our city and country came together to honour and pay tribute to a brave young man and to support the family he left behind.

“The outpouring of support in response to this tragedy made me proud to be a Hamiltonian.  The strength and resilience of our community is an inspiration.  We all owe a debt of gratitude to those at the historic Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise's) not only for today's moving military service, but to their loyal and courageous service to our country for over 110 years.

“Today, Hamiltonians stood in solidarity with our fellow Canadians, with heavy hearts, to say thank you to Cpl. Nathan Cirillo. We will never forget his service or sacrifice.”
