Statement by Ontario NDP Education Critic Lisa Gretzky on World Teachers' Day

Windsor West MPP and Ontario NDP Education Critic Lisa Gretzky released the following statement to mark 2015 World Teachers' Day.

“On this World Teachers’ Day, New Democrats, along with families all across Ontario, recognize the extraordinary contributions of teachers and education workers. Ontarians are fortunate to benefit from highly qualified teachers that work tirelessly, both inside and outside the classroom, to deliver quality education and life skills to our next generation of leaders. By partnering with parents and volunteers to coordinate local initiatives like food drives, breakfast programs and charity runs, teachers and education workers exemplify leadership in our community.”

“It’s time for Kathleen Wynne and her government to finally recognize the important role teachers and education workers play in our society. There is no reason any teacher or education worker should work over a year without a contract. The government must also provide educators with the tools they need to deliver the high quality education Ontarians expect. This begins with overturning the Liberal plan to cut up to $500 million from classrooms by 2017 and ending the chaos this government is causing in our schools.”
