Statement by Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath on the International Day of Pink

Today, people all across this province are making a statement – Everyone should be free to work, learn and play in a space that is free from harassment of all forms.

Together we can eliminate bullying, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination in schools and youth communities. The International Day of Pink is a great opportunity for Ontarians to join their communities in celebrating diversity.

New Democrats are proud to have supported the rights of students to form GSAs in their schools and we are proud to have helped extend the human rights code to include gender identity. We are continuing to build on that work by fighting to end the practice of so-called conversion therapy on vulnerable LGBTQ youth.

I’m proud to join with Ontarians as we wear pink as a statement of our shared commitment to the elimination of bullying and discrimination across our province and our country.
