Today, hundreds of Syrian refugees will begin landing in Toronto and in Montreal. For them, it’s the end of a long and arduous journey but also a new beginning as they flee a war zone.
To those who are arriving today, and to those who will come after them in the coming weeks, on behalf of Ontario’s New Democrats I want to welcome you and your family to our province.
Ontario has a proud legacy of opening our hearts and our homes to those in need and I’m glad to see this continue.
I also want to take a moment to thank the families, cities, mosques, synagogues, churches and community groups who have come together to sponsor a family, run a clothing drive or simply say, our doors are open and we want to help.
It’s this kind of generosity that makes our province so strong.
I sincerely hope that your arrival here is a fresh start, that our communities continue to lend a hand, and that you can begin your lives here in Ontario with the hope and dignity you deserve.
