Statement by Andrea Horwath on Eid al-Fitr

As-salaamu alaykum. Kul’am wa antum bi khair.

Ontario New Democrats are proud to join with Muslims across Ontario, across Canada, and across the world as you break your fasts and celebrate the joyous conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr is a special time to come together in our communities – to gather with family and friends in the spirit of unity, forgiveness and charity.

By celebrating the traditions of the many groups that make up the cultural mosaic of our province we build a stronger, more accepting and more inclusive society. Ontario’s strength is our diversity, and our province is much richer for the ongoing contributions of our Muslim community.

Islam is a faith of peace, kinship, and generosity. May we all take these universal values to heart in the coming year.
