Ford must give Peel residents clarity, as more evidence shows Ford-Crombie deal would be a mistake

QUEEN’S PARK – Marit Stiles, the Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, issued the following statement in response to CityNews uncovering a new report showing that the Peel Region dissolution will be especially bad for Brampton:

“We knew the Peel dissolution was a bad deal for all three municipalities, and this latest report shows the Ford-Crombie deal could leave Brampton with a budget deficit of nearly $72 million a year.

This is yet another bad deal the Ford Conservatives made without doing the legwork, let alone talking to the people whose lives will be impacted.

The Ford-Crombie decision has caused major uncertainty for the thousands of municipal workers whose jobs are now on the line, and for the essential services people rely on.

If the Premier won't reverse course on this billion-dollar mistake today, he can at least give Peel Region residents some clarity.”
