Ford’s education cuts rip away opportunity for Peel youth: NDP’s Singh

Schools in Peel are already being forced to cut classes in skilled trades

BRAMPTON—Sara Singh, Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition NDP and MPP for Brampton Centre, says that Doug Ford’s cuts to education are ripping away opportunities for Peel youth to enter the skilled trades, hurting their future and depriving employers of highly sought-after skilled workers.

Singh is calling on Ford to reverse his increases to class sizes and roll back his cut to per student education funding:

“The Peel District School Board’s full-time high school electricity program is an educational gem that prepares youth for a future as a highly sought-after skilled trades workers. Rather than investing in this program, Doug Ford’s cuts have landed it on the chopping block, robing students of their future and employers of the skilled workers they desperately need.

Ford’s classroom cuts mean that students throughout the Peel region will have less access to elective courses while compulsory courses will be too crowded for teachers to give students one-on-one support when they need it.

Jamming more students into larger classes with less funding is wrong and rips opportunity away from our next generation of learners and leaders. It's time for Doug Ford to do the right thing and stop his cuts to our classrooms.”
