Injured workers won’t trust Ford’s election promises

NIAGARA FALLS — NDP Health and Safety Critic Wayne Gates responded to reports that the Ford government has made an election promise to modestly increase WSIB compensation rates if re-elected. Gates released the following statement:

“For four years, Doug Ford’s Conservatives have denied workers’ injury claims and taken money that belongs to injured workers and given it to big corporations instead. Now, days before an election campaign, they’re making promises that, in the future, they’ll do the opposite. Workers know better. If the Conservatives were remotely serious about raising rates, they’d end the horrible practice of deeming people able to work when they’re not, stop fighting victims of occupational disease, ensure that WSIB surpluses went to workers instead of corporations, and raise compensation rates. And they would do it now, not a year from now,” said Gates.
