TORONTO — New Democrats in University-Rosedale have selected incumbent MPP Jessica Bell to be their NDP candidate in the 2022 provincial election. First elected in 2018, Bell is an environmental justice and transit advocate who has previously served as Executive Director of TTCriders, Lecturer at Ryerson University, and Director of the California Food & Justice Coalition. Bell has kept up the fight for affordable, integrated, well-funded, well-maintained, well-planned transit as MPP, and has just stepped into the role of Official Opposition critic for Tenant Rights, for Housing and for Urban Planning.
Quotes
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath
“From championing change to make streets safer for cyclists and pedestrians to standing up for seniors in the face of unfair evictions, Jess is a doer and a fighter for her neighbours in University-Rosedale. Jess’ spirit and determination will be real assets when the NDP forms government in 2022 and we get to work helping seniors stay in their homes for longer, giving folks down payment cash to help them buy their first home, protecting tenants from rent gouging, and supporting small businesses who need financial support to recover from the pandemic.”
Jessica Bell, NDP candidate for University-Rosedale
“It’s a true pleasure to have the opportunity to go to bat for my neighbours in University-Rosedale each and every day, and the stakes couldn’t be higher right now. Doug Ford was cutting and squeezing long-term care, education and public health before the pandemic, and now he’s refusing to release billions in COVID funding to help people get through the pandemic. But hope is on the way, because Andrea Horwath and Ontario’s New Democrats are preparing to form government in 2022, and we’re ready to start investing in better quality care for seniors, investing in the best possible public education for our kids, and investing in helping people find homes they can afford, whether they own or rent.”
