Niagara MPPs demand action from Ford on Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games

QUEEN’S PARK – Niagara’s three NDP MPP’s, Jennie Stevens (St. Catharines), Wayne Gates (Niagara Falls), and Jeff Burch (Niagara Centre) are demanding that Ford announce his support for the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games when he is in Niagara on Thursday.

“Doug Ford needs to stop stalling and get the funding flowing,” said Stevens. “Building sports venues and the Canada Games Park is going to create jobs, and it’s going to create economic activity. The Ford Conservatives should be ashamed that they’re dragging their heels on our regions' priorities, ahead of job creation, and ahead of the young athletes working hard now to qualify for these games.”

“We have been working on these games as a united region for years. We worked together and came forward with one single plan and that plan was promised funding. Now projects that should already be started are on pause because Ford won’t commit to this funding despite plans already being in place,” said Gates. “We have legacy projects that will build accessible sports facilities across Niagara that residents can use for years which are all in jeopardy for no reason – we need this funding and we need it now.”

Ford will be attending a $1,000 a plate fundraiser in Niagara West on Thursday. Niagara’s NDP MPP’s believe that is the perfect time for him to announce his support of the games in Niagara.
