Statement from NDP Leader Andrea Horwath: Liberals won’t end hallway medicine, hospital overcrowding

“Decades of cuts and budget freezes have left Ontario hospitals and health care workers stretched to the breaking point, and patients waiting far too long. Liberals and Conservatives have left this province in an overcrowding crisis, with hallway medicine and long waits for care the new normal in communities across the province.

Now, the Wynne Liberals are scrambling to change the headlines before the coming election. But the announcement today won’t undo over 20 years of damage. Last year, Kathleen Wynne shortchanged Ontario hospitals by $300 million, and this year’s announcement shortchanges them by another $100 million. This new funding won’t fix the overcrowding crisis in our hospitals, and it won’t end hallway medicine.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Ontarians can stop settling for Liberals and Conservatives who cut and underfund our health care system. Ontarians can choose a premier that will invest in the services that matter to families, and bring change for the better to our health care system.”
