Statement from Oshawa NDP MPP Jennifer French regarding reported GM closure in Oshawa

Oshawa NDP MPP Jennifer French issued the following statement in response to the CTV report that GM will be closing their operations in Oshawa:

“I have seen the same reports as many in my riding, which claim GM may be closing their operations in Oshawa, and I find these reports gravely concerning.

If GM Canada is indeed turning its back on 100 years of industry and community — abandoning workers and families in Oshawa — then this is a callous decision that must be fought.

Oshawa Carriage Works began 140 years ago and became the cornerstone of GM. GM did not build Oshawa – Oshawa built GM.

I have fought alongside autoworkers and pensioners for good jobs and a strong automotive future, not just for Oshawa but across Ontario. I am hoping the Ontario government will join us in this fight.

Words cannot fully describe the anxiety that my community is feeling at this moment.”
