Statement by Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath Commemorating Purim

Purim is a reminder of the strength of the human spirit, and the will to survive in the face of persecution, as is told in the reading of the Megillah at the start of this holiday: the story of Queen Esther and her uncle Mordecai who saved the Jewish people of Ancient Persia.

As members of the Jewish community join with family and friends to share a meal, and celebrate the occasion with noisemakers, costumes and the generosity of giving, we affirm our commitment and our shared responsibility to building a world free of discrimination and hatred in all its forms.
