Full-time Temporary
The New Democratic Party of Ontario seeks an organized individual with strong administrative skills and attention to detail on a temporary basis. Under the supervision of the Provincial Director and reporting to the Candidate Search Organizer, this position will work with relevant staff in cooperation with the ONDP Candidate Search Committee and Nominations Sub-Committee of the ONDP EPC to assist in the execution of a pre-election plan to ensure a full slate of nominated candidates with a particular focus on equity-seeking recruitment.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Enter information into Party database(s) accurately and rapidly
● Organize and maintain existing data
● Make sound political recommendations regarding disposition of data
● Handle sensitive and confidential material securely and responsibly
● Provide regular updates and reports to the Provincial Director and others as directed
● Assist with tracking and filing of various electronic and hard copy information
● Take thorough notes focused on action items
● Use political judgment and insight in politically sensitive research
● Provide administrative support to the Candidate Search Organizer to ensure adherence to internal Party requirements in the search and nominations process
● Provide administrative support to the Candidate Search Organizer to ensure adherence to the Election Finances Act and relevant Elections Ontario compliance respecting nomination contests and the registration of nominated candidates on the ballot
● Ensure that all ridings have candidates officially nominated by both the Party and recognized as nominated candidates by Elections Ontario
● Operating in the context of the Party's equity goals, monitor riding progress in meeting equity goals and prepare regular, detailed progress reports on these and other targets
● Provide administrative assistance in the development of materials and workshops for prospective candidates, especially equity-seeking folks, and provide administrative support in organizing training sessions for prospective candidates
● Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
● A thorough and well-demonstrated appreciation for discretion and confidentiality
● Experience working with confidential information in a professional setting. Understanding of digital security and privacy best practices
● Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and interpersonal skills
● The ability to multi-task
● Highly organized and detail-obsessed
● Superior and demonstrated political judgement and acumen
● Demonstrated ability to provide political analysis and strategic advice
● Demonstrated research skills in a professional or educational setting
● Superior computer skills, including experience with relational databases
● Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook a must
● Demonstrated skills documenting program progress and preparing detailed reports
● Thorough knowledge of the Constitution of the Party and relevant legislation (e.g., the Election Finances Act, the Elections Act)
● Experience in outreach to diverse communities through the Labour movement, community organizations, the NDP, etc.
● Knowledge of the policies, practices and structures of the Ontario NDP
● Working knowledge of French or fluency in another language an asset
● Experience working directly with candidates in Ontario NDP campaigns
● Thorough understanding of the commitments, tools and supports required in becoming a candidate
● Access to broad networks, including the Labour and social movements
● Organizational experience at a constituency level
● The ability to encourage, motivate and work well with volunteers an asset
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time temporary position, compensated as per Appendix IV of the ONDP Collective Agreement. Starting salary is $55,603.79 per annum (Class 2). The ONDP has an office at 2069 Lakeshore Blvd West. The successful applicant will be based in the GTA.
