QUEEN’S PARK—Marit Stiles, Leader of the Ontario NDP and Jamie West, the Shadow Minister for Labour, are celebrating the power of workers this Labour Day and renewing the Ontario NDP’s commitment to fighting for good jobs and a future working people can afford.
“When workers stand together, they are unstoppable,” said Stiles. “Today, we honour the struggles and victories of the labour movement here in Ontario and across the world. Generations of union-led wins have built the Ontario we know today. From building public infrastructure to fighting for safer workplaces, better wages, and stronger public services, the labour movement has shown the power of solidarity. Their achievements light the way forward, especially in challenging times. Together, New Democrats will keep fighting for a future that working people can afford.”
“This Labour Day feels different,” added West. “With the future of thousands of good jobs in industries like steel, auto, and forestry at risk from Trump’s attacks, workers deserve leadership that will defend good jobs here at home and build a stronger economy. The Ford government has a shameful track record of trampling on hard-fought bargaining rights, undermining public services, and now, failing to defend good Ontario jobs. New Democrats are all in for workers, for good jobs, and a stronger future.”
“On Labour Day, and every day, New Democrats stand proudly in solidarity with Ontario’s workers,” added Stiles.
“Today, New Democrats are marching proudly in communities across the province—from Thunder Bay to Hamilton to Windsor, and everywhere in between. Together, we are standing shoulder to shoulder with working people.”
