Andrea Horwath humbled by strong endorsement from Grassy Narrows

TORONTO – Following her promise to fully implement the recommendations of a new report about mercury poisoning in Grassy Narrows First Nation, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she is honoured to receive the endorsement of Grassy Narrows Chief Rudy Turtle.

“For too long, Grassy Narrows First Nation – like many Indigenous communities – has been left behind by governments in Ontario,” said Horwath.

“I take my promise to the people of Grassy Narrows very seriously. Meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and action to address the issues facing their communities is at the heart of the NDP vision of Ontario. I’m proud to share that vision with Kiiwetinoong candidate Sol Mamakwa.

“To receive the endorsement of Chief Turtle is humbling yet energizing. I look forward to partnering with Chief Turtle and the people of Grassy Narrows, to address the decades of harm done to their community, and to build a brighter future for the next generation.”
