“Blatantly undemocratic”: Ford shuts down debate on key housing and education bills

QUEEN’S PARK — Doug Ford is fast-tracking two bills that will make life harder for Ontarians.

“This is a blatantly undemocratic move by Doug Ford,” said Official Opposition Leader Marit Stiles.

“The Ford government believes that they have a blank cheque to do whatever they want. This is not a one-off, this government has a pattern of shutting down debate, cutting out community voices, and ramming through bills regardless of what it means for the very people they’re elected to serve. This is not how democracy works.”

The Ford government is shutting down debate and committee proceedings on Bill 33, which gives them control over school board trustees, and Bill 60, which leaves Ontarians unprotected against rent increases and unfair evictions by corporate landlords.

“Ford's jobs disaster has already left hundreds of thousands of families without a steady paycheque. Why is he changing the rules to make their lives even harder?”
