Clinton ER closure could lead to scary conditions: NDP

The Liberals left hospitals with 10,000 nursing jobs vacant. Then the Doug Ford Conservatives dissolved Health Workforce Ontario

France Gélinas, Ontario NDP Health critic, released the following statement in response to news that Clinton will be closing its emergency room overnight, every night, starting Dec. 2 due to a nurse shortage:

“It is incredibly scary for Clinton families to see their local hospital having to close the doors to its emergency room overnight because they don’t have enough nurses to staff it.

The Liberals left hospitals with 10,000 nursing jobs vacant. Then the Doug Ford Conservatives dissolved Health Workforce Ontario, the provincial agency dedicated to recruitment of health professionals. And it’s Clinton families that are now paying the price.

It’s alarming to see a situation where families won’t even get through the doors to their local ER if they or their loved ones have a medical crisis between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. How much further will Clinton families have to travel to get to the next nearest hospital in the middle of the night, in the middle of a health emergency?”
