Doug Ford must mandate vaccinations for all long-term care, health care and education workers: NDP

BRAMPTON – Ontario NDP deputy leader and critic for long-term care, Sara Singh, released the following statement:

“Vaccination must be mandatory for all long-term care, all health care and all education workers. Anything less isn’t good enough.

Thousands of seniors lost their lives during the chaos of previous waves because Doug Ford failed to protect them.

It’s heartbreaking for families to see new outbreaks in long-term care, in other health care settings and in schools when we know how to stop them. Vaccines work and they are available. Opt-out tests should never have been on the table in the first place for any worker in close contact with vulnerable Ontarians.

Today’s announcement mandating vaccinations for long-term care workers should have come months ago, and the delay has had devastating consequences. We’re still waiting for Doug Ford to do the right thing to protect all vulnerable Ontarians with vaccine mandates for all health care and education workers. No unvaccinated person should be inside a classroom, an ICU, an emergency room, or anywhere else in the health care and education system.”
