Doug Ford puts OHIP services on the chopping block

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition Deputy Leader John Vanthof said it’s shameful that rather than looking to improve and expand OHIP, Doug Ford is trying to cut a half billion dollars from health care by cancelling OHIP coverage for procedures and services that are currently covered.

The proposed changes are outlined in a government memo obtained and reported on by CityNews.

“Families want better health care services and expanded coverage,” said Vanthof. “They want better health and a more affordable life through the expansion of public health to include things like prescriptions and dental care. Instead, Doug Ford is looking to find half a billion dollars in cuts, and give families even less. This could mean less pain management, less access to MRIs and less diabetes management.”

The NDP says starting with a dollar-figure target to cut and working backwards is the wrong way to evaluate health care procedures.

“People deserve a government that puts patients first and works to improve OHIP, not one that rips heath care services and treatments away from families.”
