TORONTO — Ontario is facing a third wave of a global pandemic - but that hasn’t stopped Doug Ford and his party from scheduling a $1,650 per ticket fundraiser in Vaughan Tuesday evening that has mysteriously disappeared from the PC party website.
In a now-deleted webpage, the Ford promised to speak about “the issues facing our province during these challenging times and what our government is doing to help.” Election law in Ontario requires all fundraisers to be posted for a minimum of seven days before the event, but the PCs have not officially stated if the $1,650-a-ticket event is cancelled.
The event even had a contact person from “Rev Gen Professional Fundraising,”a firm the PCs have used previously to sell tickets to over 40 previous PC party fundraisers, including a Feb. 25 event with Doug Ford for $1,000-a-ticket.
“Ontarians deserve to know if tonight’s fundraiser by Doug Ford, one of his many during this pandemic, is happening in person in Vaughan or whether he’s merely selling $1,650 tickets to chat with him on another Zoom call,” said NDP Ethics and Accountability critic Taras Natyshak (Essex). “We all know Doug Ford prefers to spend time with developers with deep pockets rather than regular people who still don’t have paid sick days at work. Or maybe he’s just rescheduling the event until after he forces through new election law legislation which would double the amount of cash he takes from these rich donors?”
