Ford fundraising scheme is cash for access on steroids

Ford’s party threatening people to hand over cash or face consequences

Ontario NDP MPP Taras Natyshak released the following statement regarding news that the Conservative Party is pressuring organizations to sell tickets to a party fundraiser, with access to the Ford government on the line:

“With Ford fundraiser ticket sales lagging, the Conservatives are once again resorting to threats. This time, according to media reports, they’re threatening to withhold access to high-ranking officials if people don’t fork over $1,250 for a plate at the Ford fundraising dinner, and they’re forcing private sector firms to sell tickets on their behalf.

Wynne and the Liberals let Ontario down by running a cash-for-access scheme when they had power. Doug Ford’s threat-based racket looks like cash-for-access on steroids. This scheme is laced with threats about who will be allowed into Doug Ford’s back rooms, and who will be locked out.

People were clear that they wanted to get rid of cash-for-access schemes when they got rid of Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals. But Doug Ford is making things much worse for them.”
