Ford government must support Constance Lake families during state of emergency: NDP

KAPUSKASING - Guy Bourgouin, NDP MPP for Mushkegowuk-James Bay, released the following statement calling on the Ford government to support the community of Constance Lake that has declared a state of emergency due to recent sudden deaths and illness due to probable cases of Blastomycosis.

“Doug Ford must support the community of Constance Lake with the support and resources it needs now to deal with this frightening illness. People have died and more are sick. The community needs to know that the provincial government will take immediate action to ensure that people who are ill are getting urgent medical care, and that everyone is being moved into safe accommodations so that this illness doesn’t spread to more people in the community. There is no time to delay. The Ford government must act now to keep families in Constance Lake safe.”

Blastomycosis is a lung infection caused by breathing in small particles of fungus that grow in moist soil, leaves and rotting wood. The source of the fungus in Constance Lake is still unknown.
