Ford government opening door to privatization of WSIB: NDP

QUEEN’S PARK - After hurting injured workers in Ontario with cuts to employer contributions, Doug Ford needs to come clean on his plans to privatize WSIB, said MPP Wayne Gates, the NDP’s WSIB critic.

“The Ford government has already slashed employer contributions, while injured workers in this province continue to struggle,” said Gates.

“We know that for decades in Ontario, a workplace injury can mean a life lived in poverty.

“Now this government plans to alter the WSIB, which looks to open the door to privatization.

“Does this government plan to privatize the WSIB?”

Gates said workers in Ontario deserve a government that protects and supports their rights, not one intent on clawing back the compensation they are owed.

“No injured worker in the province of Ontario should live in poverty because of a workplace injury or an illness,” said Gates.

“Will this government finally stand up for working people in this province, or are they only intent on helping their millionaire friends save a quick buck on the backs of workers?”
