Ford’s education cuts putting French immersion programs in jeopardy: NDP

QUEEN’S PARK - Doug Ford’s cuts to education is threatening French immersion programs across the province, said Gilles Bisson, NDP House Leader.

“The Toronto District Council is planning a reduction of more than $ 12 million in French Immersion to be able to meet their budget.

“Students in Hamilton are worried that they will not be able to take French immersion courses at their schools this fall because of the increase in class sizes and teacher layoffs.

“The OSSTF for District 18, covering the Upper Grand District School Board, has alerted us to the fact that fewer classes and specialized programs like French immersion may become unsustainable.

“Why is this government putting French immersion programs that so many families in this province depend on, at risk?” said Bisson.
