Ford’s plan to protect Ontarians does not include vulnerable ODSP recipients

THUNDER BAY – Following reports of the number of ODSP recipients experiencing homelessness going up under Doug Ford’s government, NDP MPP Lise Vaugeois released this statement:

“The numbers in this report don’t add up. While the Ford government points to fewer asylum seekers on Ontario Works experiencing homelessness, the number of people on ODSP without housing continues to rise. Where is the plan Ford called the election for? His ‘Protect Ontario’ approach is clearly only serving a select few. Right now, 800,000 Ontarians are without jobs, while this government freezes hiring and ignores job losses, making a dire situation worse. While vulnerable Ontarians on ODSP and OW continue to be left behind by the conservatives the Ontario NDP continues to call for doubling ODSP and OW so that people can access the vital supports they need to live with dignity and build stability in their lives.”
