Ford wrong to interfere in Toronto’s elections

TORONTO — Official Opposition and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath issued the following statement on the Court of Appeal decision on Bill 5 today:

“The fact that Doug Ford is legally allowed to pursue his vendetta against Toronto and, for the moment, push ahead his interference in Toronto’s election does not mean it’s the right thing for him to do. Today’s stay decision is not surprising, considering the Toronto election is just weeks away — but voters now have no certainty that election results will be upheld as they wait for a final ruling on the appeal of the Bill 5.

Doug Ford has intentionally created chaos in Toronto’s election, threatened our Charter rights, attacked our judges, and time and time again, his government forcefully removed people from their own legislature. Ford didn’t campaign on interfering in Toronto’s election, didn’t consult anyone about it, and no one in Ontario voted for it.”
