HAMILTON — Dr. Robin Lennox, MPP for Hamilton Centre, is hosting a Renter Town Hall to bring together tenants, community advocates, and housing experts to discuss how Bill 60, the “Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act,” threatens renters’ rights across Ontario.
The event comes amid growing concern from tenant advocates, including Hamilton ACORN, who warn the bill could make it easier for landlords to fast-track evictions and harder for renters to defend themselves before the Landlord and Tenant Board. Dr. Lennox will be joined by Catherine McKenney, MPP for Ottawa Centre; Ricardo Tranjan, Senior Researcher with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives; and Hamilton ACORN leaders Amanda Dick and Marc Davignon, who will share perspectives from their recent tenant-rights actions in the city.
“People in Hamilton are already struggling with rising rents and a housing crisis,” said Lennox. “They deserve stability and fair treatment, not a government that makes it easier to lose their homes. This town hall is about giving renters the information and tools they need to stand up for their rights.”
Ricardo Tranjan, a political economist and author on housing and inequality, will discuss the broader trends driving Ontario’s affordability crisis, while Amanda Dick and Marc Davignon of Hamilton ACORN will highlight grassroots efforts to protect tenants and push for stronger renter protections.
“The government may have walked back its proposal to end month-to-month leases for now, but renters know better than to think the fight is over,” Lennox added. “We need to protect tenants and invest in real solutions that make housing more affordable, not laws that make it easier to be evicted.”
