New Year statement from Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath

To all Ontarians, I want to wish a Happy New Year.

As we look to the year ahead we also look back at the year that was so that we can resolve to do better.

Over the last year, the people of Ontario have had a clear look at the Liberal government and what they saw was not pretty. It is increasingly clear that the Liberals have the wrong priorities and are making the wrong choices. Cuts to hospitals, health care, education have left the services we depend on in disarray. Seniors are waiting too long to get home care, children with autism are waiting far too long for the supports they need and to the Premier is plowing ahead with the sell-off of Hydro One despite the fact that it will actually leave our province in worse financial shape.

Ontarians expect their government to make decisions that make their lives better. New Democrats are committed to giving Ontarians new hope for the year to come.

We are committed to creating a government that works for all Ontarians, and we’re going to keep doing that work, across the province, over the coming year. We’re going to keep asking hard questions and holding the Liberals to account. Ontarians in all corners of the province need to know there is someone on their side.

Ontarians deserve a government that gets the fundamentals right, that shares their priorities and actually makes life better, and a little easier, for Ontario’s families and businesses.

In 2016 and beyond, New Democrats resolve to provide Ontarians with that hope and to continue to bring your priorities to the floor of the Legislature.

On behalf of Ontario’s New Democrats, I wish everyone a happy New Year and a healthy, safe and prosperous 2016.
