Horwath concerned Ford’s choice to scrap measures that keep people safe could result in deeper lockdowns

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath said she’s concerned Doug Ford’s choice to scrap measures that keep people safe now could lead to longer and deeper lockdowns if the virus spreads out of control.

“Doug Ford is giving up the fight against COVID-19. He’s gambling with people’s lives. He claims he’s doing it in the name of business, but putting us all at risk of another real lockdown isn’t good for businesses, the economy, or working folks.”

Horwath said it’s obvious that Ford is trying to withhold money, despite surging COVID-19 spread and record-high numbers.

“He’s telling families, workers and small businesses: you’re on your own. He doesn’t want to pay for smaller class sizes. He doesn’t want to invest to expand public health measures that keep people safe. He doesn’t want to hire PSWs or pay them better to make sure our loved ones are safe in long-term care. He doesn’t want to pay for paid sick days. He doesn’t want to pay for direct supports to help small businesses survive."
