Horwath urges Hamilton City Council to support LRT agreement ahead of critical vote

HAMILTON — With Hamilton City Council’s General Issues Committee due to debate the memorandum of understanding for the LRT Wednesday, Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement:

“There are a lot of great things waiting for our community on the other side of this Hamilton LRT vote: improved public transit, a healthier environment, increased private investment and a boost for the local economy, and significant underground infrastructure renewal.

These benefits would have arrived sooner if Doug Ford hadn’t sidetracked the Hamilton LRT by callously scrapping the project because he didn’t want to spend the money on our community.

We should get shovels in the ground quickly to make up for precious lost time, and I urge Hamilton City Council to support the agreement that will allow us to move full steam ahead on the Hamilton LRT.”
