Horwath calls for Leader’s debate on jobs

TORONTO — Andrea Horwath, Leader of Ontario’s New Democrats called on Kathleen Wynne and Tim Hudak to respond to the priorities of Ontarians and join her for a debate exclusively on jobs and growing the economy.

“For middle-class families feeling squeezed like never before, jobs are a key issue. Early in this campaign I issued an open letter to the two leaders proposing a debate focused exclusively on jobs and growing the economy.  I’m challenging them both now to make it happen,” said Horwath.

The New Democrat Leader started the campaign with a push for more debates. Now that the broadcast consortium have set a date for a June 3rd Leader’s debate and Liberals have agreed to participate in the Northern Ontario debate they boycotted in the last campaign, Horwath says a debate focused on jobs would give voters a chance to see who offers a plan that makes sense when it comes to creating jobs.

“There are 100,000 more unemployed people now than before the recession and there should be a debate about solutions. Ontarians want to hear a plan that makes sense not just a sound bite on the evening news,” said Horwath.
