Liberal $5 billion hole in Del Duca’s platform

The Liberal plan relies on magic money – over $5 billion in federal transfers that are not budgeted nor forecast. This includes $2 billion in childcare transfers for a re-negotiated childcare agreement, even though Ontario’s signed final agreement only allows for re-negotiation in Year 3.

Another $457 million of the magic money in the Liberal plan relies on federal funding this year for programs that are not in this year’s federal Budget – including:

• $214 million in a “Canada Mental Health Transfer” that was not in the Federal Budget
• $123 million in federal funding for a PSW pay hike that was not in the Federal Budget
• $44 million in federal funding for campus mental health that was not in the Federal Budget

The Liberal record includes their final budget the Auditor General said wasn’t reasonable. A fiscal plan with this many holes won’t fix what’s broke.
