MPP bill would provide ADP coverage for Continuous and Flash Glucose Monitoring

QUEEN’S PARK – On Wednesday, Essex NDP MPP Taras Natyshak will debate his bill calling on the government to add Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Flash Monitoring devices to Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP) for Ontarians diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Natyshak’s Bill 272 answers a call from the Canadian Diabetes Association and the many Ontarians living with diabetes who have relayed struggles to pay for these expensive monitoring devices, which provide real-time analysis of blood sugar levels and are therefore critical to maintaining optimum health for those with Type 1 Diabetes.

“Providing ADP coverage for Continuous and Flash Glucose Monitoring devices will make life easier and more affordable for so many people living with Diabetes and their families across Ontario,” Natyshak said. “If passed, this bill will remove barriers to access for thousands of Ontarians to use this expensive technology to better control their disease and reduce the risk of complications.

"It will mean a better quality of life for adults living with Diabetes, and fewer tears for kids living with the disease, doing away with the need for finger pricks.”

Continuous and Flash Glucose Monitoring devices make monitoring one’s blood sugar easier by removing the necessity of frequent finger pricks.
