SUDBURY - Sudbury MPP Jamie West launched a letter-writing campaign on Personal Support Workers (PSW) Day.
May 19 is Personal Support Workers Day – a day to thank them for their hard work and commitment. All health care workers have been essential to getting us through this pandemic but PSWs in particular have faced many incredible challenges during this time.
“I wanted to do something for these workers on PSW Day. I want them to feel safe in sharing their stories, which is why I launched the PSW Fairness Campaign. Their voices are so important. All PSWs deserve better,” said West.
West said anonymous copies of letters submitted by PSWs will be sent directly to the Ontario premier and the minister of health.
“PSWs are family to our loved ones when we can’t be there. They are the backbone of our long-term care sector and they will care for many of us one day. They should be treated with the respect they deserve,” said West. “My office has heard from many PSWs throughout this pandemic, outlining issues around safety, pay, racism and more. One theme that keeps coming up is the fear of reprisal if they speak up. It is clear that the Conservative government does not have their back.”
Any PSW or supporter of PSWs can join the campaign by visiting www.jamiewestmpp.ca/psw_fairness_share_your_story1 and sharing their PSW story with West’s office.
